Ready for a Reset? The Surprising Power of Living—and Working—Abroad

London: my lifelong stomping ground and, in so many ways, the city that has it all. Energy, diversity, world-class culture, gleaming modern architecture alongside centuries-old icons; a vibrant arts scene; food from every corner of the globe; sprawling parks and green spaces; and, above all, the freedom to just be yourself. There’s a reason Londoners have always come from everywhere and anywhere—it’s a city where you can reinvent yourself as often as you like.

But… even in a place like this, especially when winter drags on, it’s natural to wonder: what else is out there? Would I feel more alive living by the ocean, swapping the Tube for a paddleboard? Could a slower pace, a fresh cultural perspective, or just a sunnier daily forecast brighten my outlook—or even change the course of my life?

I believe the answer is yes. As much as I adore London, stepping outside our comfort zones can transform us in ways we can’t imagine.

A few years ago, I did just that: packed my bags for Sydney. Relocating Down Under was far easier (and more exhilarating!) than I expected—new friends came quickly, the outdoor lifestyle was addictive, and weekends on the beach soon became second nature. The people were warm, the sun brighter, and the lifestyle was a world away. I only left when economic events pulled me back to London, but part of me still wonders: what could life be like somewhere else? What (or who) might be waiting for me in places like Hong Kong, Kenya, or Dubai?

At Global Pathways, every international role we recruit for represents more than a career move—it’s a new chapter. Whether it’s learning a new language, mastering mountain slopes or ocean waves, discovering a tradition you never knew, or simply finding more sunshine in your days, the world is packed with opportunities to grow.

Maybe you crave a cultural adventure. Maybe you want a taste of a slower—or faster!—lifestyle. Or perhaps it’s as simple as being closer to old friends, or finally putting your language-learning apps to the test. With M&A markets regaining momentum, now is the perfect time to ask:

What could a big change do for you?

For me, the idea of learning a new language, embracing a warmer climate, and soaking up a fresh view excites me all over again. London’s treasures will always be here when I return—Hyde Park, the West End, the eclectic shopping, and the city’s unmistakable buzz. But there’s a whole world out there ready to expand our horizons.

Australia

Canada

Singapore

Starting again in a new place gave me the chance to hit reset and rediscover what truly matters. I found new strengths, new friends, and a version of myself I’d never met before. I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Now I turn the question to you:

How would you add a spark to your reality, given the chance? What’s the one thing you’d want to change—or discover—about yourself or your life?
